Geography[edit] Kalyandurg is located at 14°33′00″N 77°06′00″E / 14.5500°N 77.1000°E. It has an average elevation of 591 metres (1942 ft). History[edit] Kalyandurgam was under the rule of Sri Krishnadevaraya and was a part of Vijayanagara Empire. Rayadurg and Kalyandurgam are the two important forts which were ruled by Boya Palegars. The name Kalyandurg came from Boya Kalyanappa, who was a Palaegar in the 16th century. Kalyandurg was very turbulent during the Vijayanagar rule. This place is also famous for diamond kimberlites. Kalyandurg taluk was formed in December 1893 by British out of portions of Dharmavaram and of the Rayadurg taluk of Bellary. In the year of March 2012 Kalyandurg become a Municipality. The interesting feature of the mountains are, mountains look like a lady sleeping from one end, and one of the mountains looks as lord vinayaka, this mountain is located to Akkamma devi temple where the people from all the villages gather once in a year for rituals. kalyandurg having one of the oldest ramaswami temple this temple very famous in the temple god rama is in athma ram this ram statue is naturally this is not humans sculpture statue ramaswamy temple is constructed in sri krishna devarya period and it is also famous for the SHIRIDI SAI BABA temple . Demographics[edit] According to The Imperial Gazetteer of India, Kalyandurg was a taluk of Anantapur district in Madras province. It was originally a part of Dharmavaram taluk and was separated in 1893. It covered 70 villages with an area of 817 square miles. The population in 1901 was 76,977, compared with 72,730 in 189. The Kalyandurg town has a population of 8,815. As of 2001 India census, Kalyandurg had a population of 29,272. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kalyandurg has an average literacy rate of 61%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 53%. In Kalyandurg, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
